In an interview late this morning TTC Chief General Manager Gary Webster told the Star that if back-to-work legislation is passed this afternoon, the TTC will be up and running later today. Premier Dalton McGuinty has recalled the legislature for a rare emergency Sunday session to vote on the legislation. All three parties are expected to be in favour of forcing 9,000 striking members of the Amalgamated Transit Union back on the job. The vote is expected at 1:30 pm. "We have the buses, subway trains and streetcars ready to go," Webster said, adding that subway cars would be running within four hours and buses and streetcars within two to three hours. "It's not going to be 100 per cent, it's not going to be a normal level of Sunday evening service. But, I think it will be decent service and it will get better as it goes along." Webster said it will give commuters confidence to have the TTC up and running today so they know Monday morning's rush hour commute will be as smooth as usual. By the Toronto Star

What is a Scanner?
A scanner is a radio receiver that can automatically tune, or scan, two or more discrete frequencies, stopping when it finds a signal on one of them and then continuing scanning when that frequency goes silent. Many scanners cover the non-broadcast radio bands between 30 and 951 MHz using FM, although there are models that cover more of the radio spectrum and use other modulation types.
