![]() The Automatic Packet Reporting System was designed by Bob Bruninga, WB4APR, to support rapid, reliable exchange of information for local, tactical real-time information, events or nets. The concept, which dates back to the mid 1980's, is that all relevant information is transmitted immediately to everyone in the net and every station captures that information for consistent and standard display to all participants. Information was refreshed redundantly but at a decaying rate so that old information was updated less frequently than new info. Since the primary objective is consistent exchange of information between everyone, APRS established standard formats not only for the transmission of POSITION, STATUS, MESSAGES, and QUERIES, it also establishes guidelines for display so that users of different systems will still see the same consistent information displayed in a consistent manner (independent of the particular display or maping system in use). Click here for VA3DBJ APRS activity. APRS - Java ViewerThis page requires JavaScript and Java to be enabled in your browser. It also requires a minimum of a 20 Kbps connection to the Internet. If you are asked by your browser whether to allow the loading of the applet signed by Analysis & Management Enterprises Corp., select Yes. Below is an interactive display of all of the reporting stations seen live on APRS-IS. This applet will display an icon for each station when that station's position report is received. During any one hour, over 4000 stations and objects are seen on APRS-IS!

A scanner is a radio receiver that can automatically tune, or scan, two or more discrete frequencies, stopping when it finds a signal on one of them and then continuing scanning when that frequency goes silent. Many scanners cover the non-broadcast radio bands between 30 and 951 MHz using FM, although there are models that cover more of the radio spectrum and use other modulation types.
The mission of Hurricane Hollow Weather is to inform and educate the public about the dangers of hurricanes and provide knowledge which can be used to prepare before the storm threatens. This information can be used to save lives at home, at work, on the road, or on the water.
