• The weekend that changed Amateur Radio

    This past weekend, October 26-28 AMSAT-NA held a very successful Space Symposium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

    Rick Hambly, W2GPS, AMSAT President along with Bob McGwier, N4HY, AMSAT Vice-President of Engineering were able to make public the results of their recent work which will change the face of amateur radio going forward.

    AMSAT has been in consultation with Intelsat regarding an application of an Intelsat platform carrying our amateur radio satelites into geosynchronous orbit.

  • NASA Hails Smooth Launch

    NASA officials and launch managers were pleased Tuesday following a clean countdown and flawless launch of space shuttle Discovery from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

    Launch Director Mike Leinbach said the launch team at NASA's Kennedy Space Center was able to study a potential problem of ice buildup without jeopardizing the shuttle while still launching on time.

  • GPS Satellite IIR-17(M) Launched

    At approximately 1223Z on 10/17/2007, the newest GPS satellite, IIR-17(M), was uccessfully launched.

    It is planned to be designated as PRN 15/SVN 55.  This new GPS satellite is expected to be set healthy for use
    in early November 2007.

  • Centennial JOTA/JOTI - CONTACTED!!

    Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) and Jamboree On The Internet (JOTI) always take place on the third full weekend of October. Between them these events attract close to half a million participants from around the world each year. It is easy to attend, very cheap and a lot of fun - you don't even have to leave your own community!

    This year's Centennial JOTA will take place October 19 - 21. It's the 50th Anniversary for JOTA, and White Pine Council will again be hosting the largest JOTA happening in Canada, at the Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville Ontario!

    UPDATE: I contacted CJ3OTA today (10/21 2024 EDT) while he was leaving Mosport on his way home. Nice talking to you Bill - VE3CRU.

  • Astronauts Practice

    NASA -- Members of the STS-120 crew began their full launch dress rehearsal this morning, boarding space shuttle Discovery for a simulated countdown. The rehearsal caps three days of exercises and training at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

    The crew will deliver the Italian-built U.S. Harmony module, which will serve as the future connecting point between the U.S. Destiny lab, the European Space Agency's Columbus module and the Japanese Kibo module.
